During the summer break of 2013/2014 (1 December 2013 – 31 January 2014) the Centre for the History of European Discourses (CHED) will offer two, eight week Summer Scholarships to students who have completed three years of study in Arts, and are planning to do honours or a research higher degree. The scholarships are for research work under the supervision of a member or affiliate of the Centre.
Key Features:
 
  • A weekly stipend of $300
  • You will be supervised by well-established researchers
  • You will have access to facilities and materials that may not be readily available elsewhere.
  • A capacity to obtain credit (or milestone requirements) towards your undergraduate degree (subject to degree rules and structure)
Non UQ enrolled students (international and domestic) who are not based in Brisbane or who do not reside within 100km of the Centre may apply for a one-off payment of $1000 per student to subsidise travel and accommodation expenses.
 
 
The Project:
 
The main goal of this scholarship is to help students design, execute, and complete a research project, such as a thesis chapter or article, or instead a prospectus for a large project, in the allotted time of 8 weeks.
 
The Research areas include:
 
  • The historical relationship between religion and science
  • History of medicine
  • History of sexuality
  • Theory and philosophy of history
  • Early Modern religious thought
  • Modern French and German philosophy
  • Critical Theory, including gender studies, queer theory and critical theories of the body.
  • British Literary History
Please contact the Centre Manager to discuss your research area. The Manager will then direct you to a suitable Supervisor who will work with you to develop your project proposal/application.
 
Research assistant:
 
Throughout the eight-week scholarship, summer scholars will spend 50% of their time at work on their projects, and will work as a research assistant to CHED researchers during the other 50%.
